In America we believe. |
Southwest Bariatric Nutrition Center, a
lifestyle nutrition center specializing in weight management
with emphasis on long-term maintenance, is no longer accepting
new patients.
Southwest Bariatric Nutrition Center celebrated
27 years of excellence with individualized, multi-faceted weight
management programs, supervised by a staff of highly trained
professionals.
Dear visitors to our website:
On June 30, 2005 I retired for the second time. The first retirement
started in 1975 when I left my practice as a Gastroenterologist
in Denver and came to the Valley of the Sun. After a three-year
honeymoon, with my then new wife, I woke up one morning and told
her that a man has to have something to do when he gets up in
the morning and that he feels is important. I wanted to return
to medicine, but with a different slant and lifestyle. I also
wanted something we could do together, and so Southwest Bariatric
Nutrition Center was born. It was challenging, being unknown
in a new state where weight control was scorned as quackery.
But time moved on and people became more sophisticated and better
educated in the treatment of the overweight.
Over these past 27 years we have seen Bariatrics
come from the shadows on the fringe of medicine to a respected
specialty in the mainstream. I hope to leave a legacy of education
and knowledge about obesity. In addition, our field study on
carbohydrate cravings has resulted in the development of Repreev
for which a patent is pending. (Keep checking this website for
updates).
We offer the many aspects of this website
as information, which we feel will be informative in your weight-loss
decision and goals.

So, what is Bariatrics?
Simply put, bariatrics is "the field of medicine that offers
treatment for the person who is overweight with a comprehensive
program including diet and nutrition, exercise, behavior modification,
lifestyle changes and, when indicated, the prescription of appetite
suppressants and other appropriate medications."
Webster's New World Medical Dictionary, MedicineNet.com/MedTerms
Dictionary
Unfortunately, many of the treatments available
for reducing weight carry unnecessary risks. While bariatrics
can involve surgery, surgical procedures are costly and can have
serious side effects. Also, most programs are not designed
for people seeking long-term maintenance.
