Body Mass Index
The body mass index is used internationally to assess the
degree of obesity. However, it does not take into consideration
sex, or the body composition percent fat and lean body mass.
Please note: Information gathered is for use by Southwest
Bariatric Nutrition Center only. No information is sold to any
agency.
Height and weight measurements are used to determine Body
Mass Index (BMI).
Please enter your weight in pounds
Please enter your height in inches
Items marked with an * are required.
The body mass index does not take into consideration
all factors of body composition. It only takes into consideration
height and weight. Not factored are percentage of lean body mass
(muscles, bones, organs, etc) and actual body fat. Assessment
of body composition by electrical impedance or under water weighing
gives a complete and accurate picture. These are two of the most
commonly used tests. Applies to those over age 18.
NOTE: The terms used to define the degrees of obesity on this
site are not those generally used by the medical profession but
have been adapted for the lay public.
